Everybody deserves access to quality, nutritious food, but during tough times, more people than ever are being faced with food insecurity. One of our newest partners, OzHarvest, a food rescue organisation, have paired up with our Financial Capability Teams to make positive changes in fighting food waste through food rescue, education and sustainability.
What was originally part of the Hampers for Hope initiative over Christmas has now seen this collaboration’s effects flow on to our Community Academy longer term as we now benefit from ten boxes of non-perishable food each week which we distribute amongst our students and families in need.
Although this new alliance only commenced earlier this year, the success during Term One has many students and families feeling more positive about their future in these uncertain times.
Communicare Academy student, Blake, said, “It's great having a choice of food every time I go home.”
Many thanks to Helen McGinty, our Parenting and Family Services Senior Manager, for the tireless effort she has contributed in connecting our two programs together.
