In Term Four of 2017, the Senior School girls were offered the privilege of weekly female boxing classes. The Young Boxing Woman Project, run by Lisa Longman, has been an incredible opportunity for our students to learn new practical skills in self-defence, and increase their physical fitness.
Each lesson, the girls were led through 70 minutes of a variety of activities that build fitness and boxing skills, then engaged in cool down stretches and finished with a 40 minute group discussion.
These discussions have encouraged the girls immensely, talking about topics like society, what beauty is, strength, female role models, resilience, healthy thought habits, anxiety, and healthy relationships.
I would like to congratulate the girls who have given their all during these classes. There has been an outstanding and noticeable increase in their physical strength, stamina and skill, which only comes through consistently applying themselves to the tasks given. I would also like to thank Lisa for her support and encouragement of our students, and
the way she has facilitated physical and emotion health.
I look forward to seeing these girls flourish even more through this program next year.
